Blogging in English…

To tell you the truth, blogging itself it’s annoying, and do it in English takes the twice of time than a normal post, this is because I already have an assignment on workshop class and I have to make post every week, I never like it and I never will.

BUT! Writing here in this blog wasn’t SO boring, some posts I had to do were fun, like the post about our interest, I think that if you take it with humor it’s more easygoing, not like my design blog I have to be very polite there and it’s so boring. The most fun post i had to do was about “our favorite ad” because it’s a very funny topic, it was enjoyable to read my classmates posts as well and to be able to see so many hilarious ads.

While I write my post I use the English orthography corrector, because if in Spanish I do a lot of misspelling imagine how I do it in English, sometimes I miss the keyboard letter and I get strange words on my topics, fortunately Word mark the wrong words for me (hey! This sounds funny) so my spelling can be a little better, also I can see my mistakes and learn a bit more.

Writing in the blog has a positive side, we can practice our English writing but we can’t know if the thing we wrote are fine, I mean… the grammar part because we don't get a revision, of course it’s too much work for the teacher to do that, but at last we can ask her during the class if we had a problem with the grammar or syntax.

I hope that my writing English has evolved a bit more because before the blog I hadn’t written in English in a long time and there are many things I had forgotten

Veevz

I’m going to write about a classmate blog, which is not my English classmate only but also in design workshop class. Her name is Viviana and she called her Blog Veevz which I think it’s a funny way of say her name.

She skips class a lot so she hadn’t write so much posts… no just kidding, she was really sick a few weeks so she couldn’t come to classes but anyway she made her posts, till this moment she has 10 post, maybe in a few moments it will be 11becaus of today’s assignment.

The blog is really simple and easy reading, because she uses contrasting colors of back screen and font, black and white… some classmate has green annoying typeface on black font…totally hard to read.

Her funniest post was about her heavy but beloved laptop, it was funny because it’s really heavy I mean… TOO heavy… even for a laptop and I remembered the pain in her face when she is with her computer bag, I feel pity for his health…really. Her post are all easy reading, with a positive look of things and always with a pinch of humor, like she sees the good part of things, an important matter that not all people has (like me for example).

The grammar in the post is so good that I feel a bit of envy, but don’t get me wrong, I’m jealous because she writes her posts very fast and she can go home earlier. I, on the contrary am too slow in writing and checking grammar and syntax.

Her blog is good she only hast to put a bit more images on it, because I don’t see words just letters, but images introduce me of what is the post about and make it interesting.

If you ask me why this picture is because she is pink and nice just like Kirby, so sweet and happy, totally adorable.

I’m not going to write about my favorite photo

Cos I don’t have one, I think it’s too difficult to choose one between all the possibilities, specially now because of the new technology in photograph cameras, in the digital world is too much easier to own a camera, also everyone can publish his photos on the internet, so the quantity of pictures has increase and due to that the quality too.

So today I’m going to write about this photo, you can find it weird, the format it’s not the conventional one. My boyfriend took this picture while we were on a small winter vacation just the two of us, we were so happy that time because it’s really hard for that happen to us because of monetary or time issues.

The place is the coast, in Algarrobo, it was winter as I said before, it was almost sunset time and we were kissing when he took the picture, so what you see is our shadows reflected on the sand, you can tell the hour for the length of the shadows. Our shadows looks like a pyramid or so, I think it’s a cute picture if you know what it’s but if you don’t I think the picture doesn’t has sense.

I really like this picture because it reminds me a lot of good moments I had with my boyfriend that vacation, the day we had to go back to Santiago it was so sad because we get used to be together all day for a whole weak.

I hope we can go there again and do more photos.

Ken Robinson on TED 2006

As a designer, I recognize that there is an element that is very much needed in our further education and working life, and this is creativity.

Education today is increasingly taking away children from this area; this is what Ken Robinson proposes at the February 2006 TED conference in Monterey, CA. He is an expert in creativity who presents his research and opinion of this conference.

The way to present the topic was quite interesting because he brings out the humor as communication strategy, keep audiences entertained and they will listen, so he inserts his message with a touch of humor.

One of his phrases:
"We do not grow Into creativity, we grow out of it. Educated Or Rather we get out of it. "

It demonstrates clearly the dissociation that the government has (in general in all countries) regarding creativity in the education, and they appear to be more concerned about generating Childs as robots than unique individuals.

The college seeks to foster our creativity, they teach us techniques for this, but clearly it’s not a process that is rooted in us that’s why we find it hard to fly our imagination.

Personally I do not think this is schools fault only, but also of the family, are the parents who have to encourage the education of their children through all necessary education techniques, and one of them is to encourage creativity and individuality.

The internet is for porn!

… And to get informed easily. As you may know, I’m studying Graphic Design, in my career, especially since third year, you need to do a lot of digital works, not just in graphic things, you have to make brand strategies and stuff, so along to type it and prepare the digital presentation, you need to get informed, that’s the most important thing. The information allows you to know the right strategy for a determinate Market situation.

Information is changing constantly, now with internet you can know what’s happening here in Chile almost at the same moment (or in a very short time), also you can be connected with all the world.

I remember when I was in the school, in primary I had to make all the homework with ICARITO, it was very difficult because IF you had the luck of having the magazine that talked about the topic you needed to know it was fine, but if you haven’t, good luck with your homework then. Of course there was always the encyclopedia, but among to be expensive it was a pain in the ass, small letter, you couldn’t cut it to get the images, always dusty, etc, etc. After that came the virtual encyclopedia, it was fine for school, but in the university you need fresh information and of a big number of topics that Encarta couldn’t give you.

I had internet since the year 2000 and I found a lot of good uses of it, like I said before, get information for homework, be connected fast with other people (msn and email), be able to read comics as soon as they are released, same thing with videogames and music, it’s just fantastic…of course if you had a good connection.

So that is, I love internet, I couldn’t even imagine my life without it, and of course if you finish your task there are always time for…

My career sucks...

Photobucket

Today I'm going to write about my career, more about of what I need to become a designer than the career itself.

As you know I'm studying Graphic Design in Universidad de Chile, Basically the skills any person needs is to be (at last) a bit creative, be objective about our own work and the most important is to have a lot of common sense. If you have these characteristic, then you can be a good designer. Personally I only have common sense and to be objective, but zero creativity, that’s why some kind of homework are so tedious and difficult to me, like when I have to design a logo or something like that, in the other hand my fort point is when I have to do Strategic design, involved more with marketing than graphic skills.

I think that there are some inborn qualities that you need, like I said before, creativity, but this one can be exercised, just like others like drawing ability, but there some qualities that any person must learn, like diagramming or drawing techniques.

The University in which I’m studying is the best one in Chile in this area, but has a few weak points, like infrastructure and lessons relevance, like graphic expression, is a very useful class but we only have two years of this class, and for me was just one because of first year, I had a teacher who was insane, a total waste of time and money, we should have that class from the first year till the last one.

I’m a bit worried about my working future, because of my poor graphic styles, I do not want to be always tired due to constant late nights of my life, I feel I'm getting older because of the demands of the career, and the working world is not much easier.

So in resume my career sucks, hope I can win the lottery or something like that.
